On Friday July 29, 2005 the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, led by Instructor Pete Malcolm from Victoria headed out on a three day exercise. The rangers were air lifted by helicopter to various parts of the Monkman area. Rangers from Tumbler Ridge, Hudson Hope, Mackenzie and Pouce Coupe, and local RCMP officer Beth Graham took part in the exercise.
This event was organized by Jack Wheeler from the Tumbler Ridge Rangers. He said that the rangers have been waiting for two years for the funds to arrive, and were only given a few days notice to finish preparing the exercise. The crews spent their time studying different aspects of the terrain in the Monkman area, as well as fighting off the rain. They arrived back in town on Sunday.
