FORT ST. JOHN–Northern Environmental Action Team (NEAT) and Peace Valley Environmental Association (PVEA) need your photos for the seventh annual ?Celebrate the Peace? photo contest.

The theme of the 7th annual contest is Celebrating the Peace. The photograph must show the Peace River since the contest is part of the local BC Rivers Day celebration.

Sally Emory, executive director of NEAT, says ?I am expecting some fabulous photographs. The entries that we have received over the past six years have been so marvelous that I am glad that I don?t have to choose the winners!?

In 2004, 31 photographs met the criteria and the photos were posted on NEAT?s website. In 2003, 30 photos were received.

RuthAnn Darnall, president of PVEA, says ?I am encouraged by the number of the entries in past years. I hope that this photo contest will mean that more people will get out and about and enjoy the beautiful Peace River valley…and don?t forget to take your camera!?

The photograph should be taken recently (no more than two years old) and can show the river in any season. It can of the river, from the river, over the river or looking down on the river.

One entry per person is allowed and the photograph must be a 7? wide by 5? high (landscape setting), unmounted colour print. All entries must include a brief description of where the picture was taken and why the photographer feels suits the contest theme.

The staff of Hello North (Northern Rockies Alaska Highway Tourism Association) has the challenge of selecting first, second and third place. There are cash prizes for the winners, supplied by NEAT and PVEA. The judges keep a record of all photographs for possible follow-up.

Entry deadline for photographs for the annual Rivers Day photo contest is Friday, September 6th . Winners will be announced on BC Rivers Day, September 25, 2005
