We are delighted to welcome Darwin Wren as the new interim Youth & Family Counsellor at the Tumbler Ridge Counselling Service. Darwin has many years of experience working with youth and families in a variety of settings. He started his career path after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in Alberta in 1989.
Recently, he and his wife Angeline and thier 18-month-old son, Brock, moved to Tumbler Ridge from Fort Nelson. They first visited Tumbler Ridge three years ago and fell in love with the scenery and outdoor pursuits the area has to offer. Darwin commented, ?You know, I must say, we immediately felt welcomed by everyone in the community and there was an atmosphere of optimism.? As Darwin is an avid fisherman and also enjoys hiking and quading, the fit with Tumbler Ridge was perfect. Sports have always been a very important part of his life and it fits very well with his work with youth. Darwin will be coaching the Senior Boys Basketball team this year and hopes to start a fastball team in the spring. Reflecting back Darwin stated, ?After that initial visit we knew this was the town we wanted to raise our son in and call home.?
In reference to his counselling experience with youth Darwin says, ?There are two essential components to a kid?s emotional health that have emerged over and over for me. The first is a healthy home environment. Add to this, a supportive community, which places a high value on our younger citizens. I look forward to helping all youth, families and the community as a whole to strive to reach out to our youth and help them reach their goals. Patience, compassion and an open mind are also some of the values I hope to be able to bring the youth of our community.?
