Annual Scouts Kub Car Races

?Scouts, Cubs and Beavers?start your engines!? Saturday afternoon, on February 26, the annual ?Kub Kar Races? were held at the Fireside Lounge in the Community Centre. It was extremely well attended and there was a good showing of all the participants.

Scouts Canada consists of boys and girls in the following age groups. Beavers; aged 5-7, Cubs; aged 8-10, Scouts; aged 11-13 and Venturers; aged 14-17. This week was dedicated to activities celebrating Scouts Week and paid tribute to Lord and Lade Baden-Powell. The founder of Boy Scouts was Lt. Gen. Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell who became Lord Baden-Powell. It was Baden-Powell?s sister Agnes who helped organize the Girl Guide movement, but it was Robert Baden-Powell?s wife, Olave (nee Soames), who spent her life after their marriage, in promoting Girl Guides and Scouting. She became Lady Baden-Powell and they shared the same birthday of February 22nd, which began the week-long Scouts events. The international celebration of this day is known as ?Thinking Day?.

The Scouts group members are: Michael Webb who took 1st prize in the Scouts Truck race, Alex Beaton took 2nd and Fawn Pack took 3rd. The Cubs members are: Evan Treit who took 1st place in the Kub Kars race, Cody Legaspi took 2nd , Joel Thomson took 3rd , Myles Wagner, Daniel Lake, Zach Cooper, Dakota Jung, Jace White, Dylan Miller, Evan Treit, Alycia Starko, Tassie Delpierre and Bethany Trotter. The members of Beavers are; Ayrton Savard who took 1st place in Beaver Buggies, Tanner Slack who took 2nd , Kenesha Mercredi, Seth Treit, Kyla MacNeil, Michaela Hunter, Brayden Miller and Jacob Webb.

Boy Scouts and Girl Guide troupes are active in Canada, the US and overseas, in over 158 countries.
