There?s lots of good news to celebrate on the athletics front this week.
Braden and Joey Watt went to Dawson Creek to compete in the South Peace Hershey Meet. Braden won the standing long jump and secured second in the ball throw. Joey got first in long jump, second in the ball throw and third in the 50 meter sprint. They had a great time and represented Tumbler Ridge well.
Daniel Helm has been selected to represent Zone 8 in the BC Summer Games, to be held in Kelowna in July. He will be competing in the 3000 meter, 1500 meter, 1500 meter steeplechase and 4 x 400 meter relay events.
Finally, two young athletes are off to Edmonton to compete in the provincial Hershey meet. Kelsey Legault will be doing the 400 meters and standing long jump, and Tyler Schlief will be doing the 200 meters, 400 meters and a field event. The top finalists for the region get a chance to go to Herhsey, Pennsylvania.
The track and field season is drawing to a close, and has been one of the most successful in years for Tumbler Ridge. Thanks to the coaches and parents, and the athletes for their dedication.
