Best Baker Contest

Organizers are thrilled with the response to the newly created ?Best Baker Contest that will be held at the Community Centre. All proceeds will go towards the newly established Food Bank, which will be housed at New Life Assembly Church on Murray Drive. Pastor George Rowe says that the food bank will be open 365 days of the year.

The basement of the church has been renovated with a grant from the District of Tumbler Ridge. The money was used to build shelving and for the purchase of a freezer for perishable items. The renovated space is approximately 300 square feet and will be operated by the Tumbler Ridge Ministerial.

The Food Bank, which will be called the Family Assistance Program, will replace the services that were offered by the Tumbler Ridge Thrift Store. Pastor Rowe says they do not have the space for clothing or furniture, or donations of that kind, and for the moment will only be able to accept food items.

The Best Bake Contest which will be held on December 6th in the Community Centre promises to be a fun filled event. And one in which residents can do all their Christmas Baking in one evening.

The prizes are fabulous, and the baking entries will be sold beginning as soon as the entries are completed and the tables are set up. In this bake sale items will be sold by the dozen only, but shoppers will have the opportunity to mix and match at the individual tables. For example, at the tarts table, a shopper can choose two of this or three of that, as long as the final count comes to one dozen. The same procedures will be observed at the Cookie table and the Squares and Slices table. Organizers feel that shoppers can sample the best of what Tumbler Ridge bakers have to offer without having to purchase a dozen of any one thing.

The theme for this first ever ?Best Bake Contest? is ?Share the Joy? and we hope that you take the opportunity to do so and to show off your culinary skills. The prizes are great and it is for a good cause. Please come out and cheer your favouite judges on. The judging is a public event and will be held in front of the Art Gallery. For those of us who don?t cook, be sure to show up on Thursday, December 6 at the Community Centre to admire and purchase the best that Tumbler Ridge has to offer.
