Celebrating Small Business Week

People’s Pharmacy has been a fixture in our community for many years. Charissa Tonnesen and Mike Ortynsky bought the business in 2001 and have been changing and adding onto it ever since.

Charissa graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science and Pharmacy before she headed up north to start her career. Up until recently the two pharmacists commuted between town and Fort St. John where they own another pharmacy. Now Charissa has made a permanent move to Tumbler Ridge.

Coinciding with her move will be the renovations to the pharmacy and the expansion of products they carry. They pride themselves on being a pharmacy and not a retail outlet; they have also won awards for their businesses. These renovations are aimed at being done by the beginning of November of this year.

Charissa feels that the best part of being a pharmacist is that you spend all day helping people, and making them feel better.
