Chamber Chatter

Hi everyone. I know everyone is feeling the same….winter just never seems to go away! March has been a terrible month, I hope that means April will be really nice.

Today I want to remind everyone that has a vial of life in their fridge, to update it. That vial is no good to anyone if you do not keep it up to date. That was a very good idea to have, it helps the people that may have to come to your home when you are very very sick, and may not be able to give them the information they need regarding your medication or next of kin. Keep up the good work with those vials, they are very important.

I felt very lucky on March 25 to be part of a group of people that was gathered with Lindsey Vandale at the Town Hall working with Tara Forest on Tumbler Ridge?s section of the website. Tara has been working in the North to get all of our communities onto this website, as this website will be the funnel point for all visitors, especially 2010 visitors. They call the Hello BC Website a One Stop Shop, because they will have all of BC posted on this one website. Lindsey was extremely pleased because she didn?t expect anyone to come to Tumbler until September; and now we will be on the site before September even gets here: Tara told us we should be on around June 1/09.

To get on this website is very exciting, as it will put information about Tumbler Ridge out to more people. There are various pages on the site describing all that Tumbler has to offer. Tell all your friends and family to look up and Tumbler Ridge after the first of June 2009, and to spread the word around.

I got this on my email one day from a very successful lady. She told me that she has learned these five principles while working for someone else who was tremendously successful, so when she went on her own, these where her principles.

Five Key Principles of Success

1. Know your industry.

2. Stay ahead of the curve, and know your next strategy.

3. Learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of your team. Don?t get stuck in old behaviors.

4. Start small, dream big and grow gradually.

5. Recognize that overnight success is an anomaly.

?Often we want to believe that there must be one thing we could do that will skyrocket our business to the next level. Rarely is that true.? I thought that this was very good information that I should share with you all this week. I bet if you talked to any successful business man or woman in Tumbler Ridge, they would tell you the same thing.

Our next Chamber Board meeting is April 1, 2008, 6:00 pm in room #1. If anyone wants to stop in please feel free.

We will soon be announcing the events we want to put on this year. We are just getting them fine tuned before we make any announcements. Don?t want to announce anything we cannot do.

We are having a Mayor and Councillor Pancake Breakfast, April 18, 2009 in the Rec Centre. This will be cooked by our Board Members, the Mayor and Councillors will speak and then there will be a question and answer period. This is by donation only. Donations to be shared with Chamber of Commerce and the Food Bank.

Everyone is welcome. OH Yeh!! there will be birthday cake as well, Tumbler Ridge is 28 years old on April 9, 2009.

As consumers, we have the power to shape our community! Isn?t that an amazing thought?

Every time we open our wallets to a business, we are saying, ?I like what you do! Keep doing it.? When we shop local, we are saying YES to a strong vibrant local economy that translates into a unique and interesting community.

It is up to all of us to continue to make Tumbler Ridge a better place to live. So please continue to support local businesses, like you did today.

Two silk worms had a race. They ended up in a tie.

Have a good week everyone.
