CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ELECTS BOARD FOR 2007 AT ANNUAL AGM

The Chamber welcomes a new president and board, elected at the annual AGM held last week. Board members serving another term are: Ellis Howard, Joanne Kirby, Sheila Sherburne, Josey Pindera, Carmen Pegg, and Wayne Kopec. Newly elected are president Sandy Miller, vice president Marla Eyre, and Loraine Funk, who is taking over the position of Secretary Treasurer from Sheila Sherburne. Newly elected on the board is Ryan Murray.

In the first orientation meeting held on January 18, Miller thanked past president Brenda Banham and board members for their hard work and contributions in 2006 saying that ?filling Banham?s shoes will be a tough act to follow? but feels that she is up to the challenge. Miller brings years of marketing and business experience to the position. She also has considerable Chamber experience from working with the Chamber in other communities.

The executive and board will be focusing on some major goals in 2007, and paramount among them are bringing the Chamber to the business community, focusing on membership, and member services. The Chamber of Commerce nation-wide has always been ?The Voice for Business? and it is a priority for the Tumbler Ridge Chamber to bring that service to their members.

The Board and executive represent an excellent cross-section of business services, from consulting and retail to insurance and the publishing industry.

Those areas of expertise which the new board represents will be capable of handling the challenges of carrying on the work accomplished by the previous board. A major event this year for the Chamber and Tumbler Ridge is the third Annual Coal Forum which will be hosted here this year. In 2006 the Coal Forum was hosted in Chetwynd.

The first challenge faced by the new board and executive is filling the position of Office Manager. The Chamber office, located in the Community Centre, will be closed until the position is filled. The Board apologies to the members for any inconvenience. Until the office opens, inquiries can be directed to any of the Board or Executive, and can also be directed to the newspaper office: Phone 242-5343 Fax 242-5340 or email mail@tumblerridgenews.com 208-235 Front Street, across from the Medical Center in Tumbler Ridge Place, or to Tumbler Ridge Floral Fantasy & Gifts,

The Board would like to thank everyone for their patience as we get the Chamber office up and running.
