CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Triple K Safety is a family-owned and operated first aid service. In January of 2003 Rita and her son Jonathan started the company with a single Mobile Treatment Unit, and today Triple K Safety has six mobile treatment units, an office and employs as many as ten people. Rita told me with a smile ?Jonathan is the General Manager.?

All Triple K units exceed Occupational Health and Safety requirements. They have developed a comprehensive, detailed safety program that is COR (Enform) certified. All Triple K employees have their interprovincial Occupational Level 111 First Aid tickets; they are also required to have up-to-date TDG, H2S Alive and WHIMS.

Triple K Safety is able to provide short and long term occupational first aid (OAF111). In addition to these services Triple K also offers side by side quads for remote access, as well as first aid and office skid trailers.

Rita came to Tumbler Ridge after hearing about all the houses that were being sold, she fell in love with the town, the trails and the beauty of the area in general. She purchased one of those many homes for sale and moved into Tumbler August 2001.

Within a month she opened a home based business, Heavenly Vibration. Rita worked in Dawson as an LPN in the first four years here.

Jonathan moved to Tumbler in October of 2002 hoping to find employment in the oil and gas industry. He got his occupational first aid ticket in November, working with a company based in Fort St. John that sent him north to work for weeks at a time.

In January of 2003 there was a lot of oil and gas work that was being done in the area and Rita and Jonathon were not happy with being away so much; they consulted with Rita?s eldest son Wes for his financial and business knowledge. It was decided they would purchase a mobile treatment center and start their own first aid company. With Rita?s experience as a nurse and first aid attendant, Jonathan?s experience with both first aid and as a rig hand, and Wes being an accountant, they felt that they could provide a knowledgeable, reliable first aid service.

In November of 2007 Triple K Safety opened an office to better meet the needs of its attendants and customers. Amy Baarda is the office administrator. She was one of the first aid attendants, Triple K sent her to Edmonton for training in safety and auditing; now one of Amy?s many duties is to audit the health and safety plan to ensure that it meets all the requirement set forth by Enform. Amy also has a Bachelor of Arts & Education degree, and still holds her level three first aid ticket.

2008 has brought more changes for Triple K Safety. Upgraded equipment, new units and roll over kits. Jonathan learned that new Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards required Roll Over Cages to be installed in all Mobile Treatment Centers he contacted the company that makes the units. After traveling to Kelowna for extensive training Jonathan is now certified to repair Code Three Units and is working to assist other first aid companies to update their units.

Triple K Safety was named for Rita?s three sons. Truly a family business; Rita, Jonathan thank you for staying a Chamber of Commerce family member as well. You will find Triple K Safety Inc. at 107 Commercial Drive Phone: 250.242.5033 Fax: 250.242.5036 email: tripleksafety@pris.ca
