The official opening of the Days Inn was the first week of March 2008, but Shier Brar, one of three owners said they will be having a Grand Opening so that all of Tumbler Ridge can come and have a look around. The other two owners are Gary Brar and Rana Sandhu. There are finishing touches to do, but the hotel is beautiful inside and the rooms and suites are well appointed.
Days Inn has a total of one hundred and two rooms. Fifty two rooms with king size beds, forty rooms with two queen size beds and ten jacuzzi suites. All the rooms have kitchenettes, complete with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, stove & microwave. I was lucky to get shown around by the General Manager Ravi Saxena. When you enter a king room, there is also a pull out for two more people to sleep, and the bedroom is separated by french doors. In the suites as well the bedroom is separate, and comes with a closet that is as big as a lot of houses.
The hotel boasts three stories and is only one of a few buildings with an elevator. There are twenty nine smoking rooms and the rest is non smoking. The Conference centre which will hold three hundred to three hundred and fifty is expected to open in a couple of months. They also can make arrangements for smaller groups. The restaurant is expected to open the end of 2008. Ravi Saxena and Shier said they hope to get in Smitty?s. They will also have a small convenience store for their guests.
When you check into the Days Inn you will find a business centre, guest laundry, exercise room and hot tub area for your use. They will soon have internet in all the rooms as well; and you get a hot complimentary continental breakfast.
I asked Shier why they chose Tumbler Ridge for their hotel. He said ?we saw there was opportunity here.? ?When there are hockey tournaments, sometimes there were no rooms for people to stay, now there will be, also we can house a bus load of tourists as the tourism grows.? ? If the town continues to grow?, Shier said, ?we even have room to add another fifty rooms?.
The Days Inn in Tumbler Ridge is affliated with Days Inn across the Country, so when you travel with a lot of stops, they can make reservations for you at other Days Inn.
Shier, Gary, Rana and Ravi, the Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce is pleased you joined our membership, and we wish you the best with your new hotel, may all your rooms get full.
