Chamber of Commerce update

Wow, I cannot believe August is almost over! The summer was busy, getting the new membership package done and of course recruiting new members, assisting committees and much more. It has been such a wonderful experience meeting and talking with members of the business community and the organizations.

I would like to let everyone know that my new hours are 8:30 am to 12:00 pm 12:30 to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. However if you would like to meet with me, as some have already requested earlier times, please call me at 250-242-0015, my schedule is flexible to adjust to your needs.

I am so excited about the Fall events that are in the planning stage right now. These events will be great opportunities for all of our members and the community.

The 2009 Coal Forum will be held in Tumbler Ridge this year on October 8th. The Coal Forum is presented by the District of Tumbler Ridge, the Chamber of Commerce, District of Chetwynd and the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce.

One of the events for the 2009 Coal Forum will be the Mini Trade Fair. This will provide an opportunity for participating businesses to promote their services and products to potential customers within the Coal industry. This one day event will be from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm situated in the Fire Side Lounge in the Community Centre. Registration to participate in the Mini Trade Fair can be done by contacting the Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce at 250 242-0015 or e-mail or Registration is FREE if you are a Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce member in good standing! Hurry and register as space is limited!!

Recently myself, and Kirk Fallon the President of the Chamber, met with the mine manager for Peace River Coal, Steve Amor and Mike Caisley representing Western Coal at the Chamber office. Both gentlemen were very gracious with their experience and support for the 2009 Coal Forum. This year?s theme is State of Coal. Although all the details have not been secured, it promises to be a great experience for the public and businesses to find out information about the State of Coal.

The Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce will also be organizing a Mine Manager Breakfast to coincide with the Coal Forum. This fundraiser for the Chamber will allow tickets to be purchased for an opportunity to meet and speak with the mine managers from our areas and enjoy breakfast. As soon as the details are confirmed by next week the specifics will be announced. so please stay tuned.

With the kind help of Michele and the Public Library, we are working to offer our membership an Employment Standards Seminar this fall or early January. Once the seminar is booked we will announce the details.

Please join me in congratulating our two newest board members, Neel Trasy from Peace Sign and Design and Rose Colledge from TR & R Services. Neel has served as a board member for the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce, and Rose has previously served on the TRCOC board, among many other organizations. We look forward to working with Neel and Rose, and appreciate their experience.
