CHETWYND – Last week Mayor Merlin Nichols received news from Victoria, BC that Chetwynd received $300,000 in flood recovery. The amount will go to restoring the portion of road in the industrial section of town where a septic truck owned by Chetwynd Septic Services fell through during flooding conditions in June 2011.

As well, Chetwynd recently received its second installment of 2012’s Small Community Grant.  The approximately $78,000 will be put towards general operations and helping keep taxes low, said Nichols.  The news was well received by District members and the mayor, but certainly not a surprise he said. “We’ve been getting it for years.  We simply count on it,” said Nichols.
The government of BC divvied out $96.2 million to communities throughout the province under the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

The money goes towards community safety and services.
