Curling Club Holds AGM

Submitted

There is still snow on the ground but curling season has wound down for the season. The Annual General meeting was held on April 5 to congratulate League winners and elect a new executive for next season.

The Bernie Lehmann team consisting of Mike Milner, Jim Shultz and Rob Vandale won the Men’s League along with the Men’s Play downs. Karen McEwen’s team won the Ladies’ League. She had Linda Milner as her vice, Christine VanDeBurgt as her second and Christina Main as her lead. The Mixed winners consisted of Dan and Kim Ferguson along with Stuart and Sally McAninch.

President Dan Ferguson thanked the outgoing executive for their hard work and dedication to the club. He encouraged everyone to try to get new members out for next year in order to avoid following the Chetwynd Curling Club’s closure. He acknowledged the major sponsors out on the ice.

The TRCC had a successful season with the support of the following major sponsors: Walter Energy, Teck Resources, Finning, SMS, Southpaw, JADE, Fountain Tire, Gearorama, Enbridge, Dominion Insurance, CNRL, Orica Mining, and Western Belting. Many other donators also made contributions throughout the year’s many events.

Jenna McQueen will head up the new executive with help from past executive such as Peter McEwen, Bernie Lehmann, Linda Milner, Kim Ferguson, Elaine Guske and Jim Shultz. New comers for the upcoming year on the executive include: Pamela Broderick, Vicky Harding, Ken Guske and Stuart McAninch. The men’s league convener remains vacant so if there is anyone out there that is interested in assisting with the direction of the TRCC please call Jenna.

The curling club is looking for new ways to make the club grow. Would you play in a Friday mixed league? If you and your friends work shift work, we would encourage you to find six or more people to field a team each week, as we would like to accommodate the shift workers. Maybe you would prefer to curl during the day instead of evening? If that is the case we can organize a league. Keep an eye on this paper and community bulletin boards for information this fall on “learn to curl” nights and league information. If you have an interest in curling next year please contact any of the names listed above. See you on the links.
