Cut the Fat

I don’t know about you, but my pants have been feeling a little tight lately. It’s tough during the winter months to motivate ourselves and stay active when the wind is blowin’, the snow is fallin’ and the couch and fireplace are calling our names.

Julie Croston was feeling the same way and with a family vacation coming up to Mexico, she has decided to do something about it, and invites all community members to join in as well. Croston says, “I’ve gained probably 35 pounds over the last few years. We have family down south and they started a challenge. Between the 10 of them they lost around 300 pounds.”

Croston so far has created a Facebook group called Cut the Fat Tumbler Ridge. This group is open to everyone even those who don’t want to be part of the weight loss challenge. Croston says, “It’s for anybody. You don’t have to be overweight to join. It’s there to find someone to go walking with and just to get fit and healthy and share recipes.”

The weight loss challenge and group already have 19 members after only about a day of organizing. Croston’s idea is to have a competition, similar to the one on the TV show, The Biggest Loser.

Everyone who is participating will put a chosen amount of money in the pot. At the end of the three month challenge, the person who has lost the most body mass will win the pot. Croston says, “It’s always nice to have a goal. There are lots of people who want to lose weight and it’s easier with support.”

The challenge is still in its infancy and all of the details haven’t been hatched out yet. But the rough idea is that there will be weigh ins done on the same scale every week to ensure accuracy.
