Dawson Creek Juried Art Exhibit

The Peace Liard Regional Arts Council, South Peace Community Arts Council and the Dawson Creek Art Gallery are pleased to host the 24th annual Peace Liard Regional Juried Art Exhibit. This exhibit has offered regional emerging artists the opportunity to share their creativity with the larger community since 1982.

The 2006 Regional Juried Exhibition will be held at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery and all regional artists are invited to enter in one of three categories: Open, Student, and Class Project. Three awards are available; a $200 Student Award and an $800 Recognition Award, both sponsored by ENCANA CORP, as well as a $300 People?s Choice Award sponsored by the hosting committee.

This year?s Juror is Doug Willis. Wills received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Calgary in 1981 and has been a practicing artist since that time. Majoring in Ceramics and Sculpture, his recent interests have been in the areas of Graphic Design and mixed media paper work. He also has a Professional Certificate in Multimedia Technology and upon moving to Grande Prairie, he spent two years as Fine Arts Technician at Grande Prairie Regional College while teaching both credit and non-credit courses in Digital Imagery. He is currently the Curator at the Prairie Art Gallery in Grande Prairie.

Included in the Regional Juried Exhibit Schedule is a workshop lead by artist Tina Martell. As an emerging artist in today?s art world, it is important to have the skills and knowledge to document and promote your work. Guest speaker, Tina Martel, will explain the process needed to access galleries and other exhibition opportunities as well as how to record your work for posterity. Tina will also present examples of her recent work. Tina earned a BFA in the painting department of the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary and a MFA, also in painting, at the University of Calgary.

Entry deadline for this exhibit is February 27th and forms are available through your community Arts Council or local gallery. Phone the Dawson Creek Art Gallery for more information at 782-2601.
