If you’re thinking about attending the Quintette Reunion, now is the time to act, says Marg Wheeler. Wheeler is planning the event alongside Karen Connelly, and, while they have had hundreds of former employees express interest, very few people have actually signed up.
“I’ve had people ask me if they need to register if they live in town. If you want to attend, then yes. We need to know what the numbers are, because we have to give the numbers to the caterers. We need to know who wants steak and who wants chicken. People just aren’t getting the drift. They think they can just show up, and that’s not the way it’s going to work.”
Wheeler says the cost is very affordable, only $50/person for the entire weekend. The cost covers admittance to the meet and greet at the Community Centre on Friday Night, the Dinner and Dance on Saturday, and the Pancake Breakfast on Sunday.
A best ball golf tournament is planned for Saturday and will cost an additional $15. People attending from out of town will be responsible for their own lodging, but says Wheeler, the cost is very reasonable. “We’ve only had 35 people register so far, and the end of May is the deadline for this.”
A form is available from the Facebook Group, or people can contact Wheeler directly. “They just gotta get the money in, and let us know what they want for the dinner,” she says.
And for those people who don’t book. “If people come to town and they haven’t booked, we’ll shake their hands and say hi, but they’re not going to get in to the Friday night meet and greet, and all the other great events for this reunion. It’s probably best to book.”
Not everybody is taking their time. “We have one former employee, now in India, who has already registered,” she says.
Finally, says Connelly, she’s still looking for former employees. “There are still people saying they haven’t heard about it,” She says. So she’s asking people to spread the word to folks they know used to work at the mine.
