Dinner raises over $2000 for Roberts family

Story Provided

On Friday, December 4, the Tumbler Ridge Legion Ladies Auxiliary held a Benefit Dinner for the Roberts family. Advance tickets were sold at $10.00 each, and 131 people attended and thoroughly enjoyed the lasagna dinner.

Ladies Auxiliary President Grace Walsh thanked everyone for coming, and stated that just being here showed the huge support of our Community for this family; and the fact that all present were happy and bubbly also meant a lot.

President Walsh also thanked the Auxiliary members for their excellent work in preparing and serving the meal; with special thanks to Marg Wheeler, her special “roadrunner” for all her extra work, especially in securing the items for the Silent Auction.

All the food for this Event was obtained at our local Shop Easy, and a Big! Big! Thank-you was extended to Darryl Krakowka and Debbie Dickerson for all their help.

Legion President Comrade Jim Cullen was also thanked for closing the lounge for the Auxiliary to set up this area and have it ready to seat fifty people.

The items for the Silent Auction were displayed in the Legion Lounge, so that they could be viewed and bids could be made. The bidding closed at 8:30P.M., following which, all items were paid for and awarded to the successful bidders. A huge Thank-you was given to both the donors and the bidders, all of whom showed heartfelt generosity.

Proceeds from the dinner, a cheque in the amount of $1,310, was presented to Herb Roberts by President Walsh, and the proceeds from the Silent Auction ($1,708) will be deposited into the Roberts Family account.

The news on little Marianna was good to hear. She now weighs five pounds, and is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday, December 7. Further consultation will be required for her open heart surgery at a later date.

Again, the success of this Event is due to the big hearts of those who gave up other plans for the evening in order to attend; and to the generous support of both businesses and individuals who donated to the Silent Auction.

From the bottom of our collective heart … THANK YOU, EVERYONE!!
