After the disappointing cancellation of the dogsled races for the Winterfest weekend, due to warm weather conditions, race organizers have decided to host a small race this coming weekend at the local Golf and Country Club. With all the fresh new snow visiting Tumbler Ridge over the past week, conditions look very favorable.
Larry White, of the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society, is hard at it, grooming the trails for the event and with weather conditions the way they are, the trails should be firm and ready to go by race day.
?It?s been great to see this community pull together in the face of adversity?, says Stacey Lajeunesse of Northern Recreational Developments. ?Their willingness to help is what makes it a pleasure to live and work in Tumbler Ridge. Living in a community with no media coverage, such as radio and television station, has made it very challenging to keep the public informed as to what is happening. The owner of our local newspaper has been wonderful in her efforts to utilize her paper to keep the public informed and I would like to publicly thank her for her unselfish gestures to see that this event becomes a reality, so THANK YOU Loraine?.
The new date for the races is March 26, 2005 so if you care to come out and see this exciting event, race organizers would like to see as much support as possible to make this a successful occasion.
Hope to see you at the races.
