The Tumbler Ridge Curling League held a mixed tournament on Jan. 17 and 18.
In the A event, the Ferguson team (Dan Ferguson, Kim Ferguson, Rob Vandale, Sally McAninch) beat the Pamela Broderick team to take top spots in the event, while over on the B side, the team of Jean Slaney, Jim Shultz, Mary Lynch, Deb Bain won over the Rob Muise team.
Finally, Al Kangas, Joanne Kirby, Pernell Kirby, Sue Kangas took the C event, beating the Travis Dugal team.
All together, there were 32 curlers who participated in the event, which ended with a fantastic dinner on Saturday, where the prizes were awarded. Many sponsors helped make the weekend a success.
The next big event for the curling club will be the Men’s and Ladies bonspiel held the weekend of Feb. 21. “If you would like to play but can’t find a team, we might be able to find one for you,” says Kim Ferguson. You can contact her at 242-3530.
Ferguson says the club is planning on having a fun night of “stick curling” on Feb. 7. “If you have ever wondered what curling would be like and want to give it a try, this night is for you,” she says. “With stick curling you do not need to get down into the hack so if you quit curling because it hurt your knees, you can try this out! Just bring some enthusiasm and some clean shoes.”
The event starts at 7 pm. “We will match players up for a couple hours of fun,” says Ferguson.
A social time in the lounge would follow.
