Fire’s burning

A fire, 30 km from town, is currently being monitored by the Prince George Fire Centre.

The fire is visible from town, and from Highway 29. However, it is located high up on the flanks of an unnamed peak near Cowmoose Mountain, at the base of a ridge. “Due to dangerous terrain and a lack of safe accessibility, the fire is currently considered a modified response fire,” writes Jill Kelsh in a release about the fire. “The fire is expected to grow but is not currently threatening any values. The fire is currently five hectares in size.”

The Bullmoose gas plant two and a half kilometers south, downhill from the fire, but it is not expected that the fire will grow in the direction of the gas plant, as fires travel slowly down hills, and the prevailing winds are pushing the fire east, into a rocky area at the base of the cliffs.

If the fire reaches a point where crews are able to access it safely, then suppression will occur on this fire.
