Girl’s Hockey Tumbler Ridge Style

? We are just going to go to Grovedale, play a couple of games, and have as much fun as we possibly can?, announced Associate coach Scott Trim. The girls hockey team traveled to Grande Prairie for an overnighter and two games against the SOS Flames. For the first time, the girls were matched against a team of similar talent and experience. So far it has been a season of opponents that have played together for at least a season.

The Saturday 5:45 pm game got off to a familiar start when at a buck and a half into the contest, we were down one ? nil. In spite of the early set back, it was evident that the teams were evenly matched. At the end of the first, the home team had the same 1-0 lead. ?Sure is better than a multi-goal deficit?, noted spectator Shelley Leach. ?Now that?s hockey!?.

After a seesaw battle in the second, Danielle Golob took a breakaway pass from Brittany Cyr to knot the game at one. The teams went to the dressing with a 1-1 tie.

Five minutes into the third, Danielle scored again for a 2-1 lead. Goaltender Sharla Martin made a number of key saves to preserve the lead. The Flames got their second goal on a rebound. Kara Trim and Kelsey Legault both had strong games, as the girls recorded their first point of the season with a 2-2 tie. ?The Legault sisters and Amanda Thomas played great on defense, and they sure are having fun out there?, stated defensive coordinator Scott Trim.

Sunday morning started off on positive note when Danielle Golob scored on an assist from Krista Trim just three minutes into the game,. Then the girls seemed to stop skating, and the Flames scored two unanswered goals to go ahead 2-1 at the period?s end. The GP team added another two in the second before Danielle got another to cut the lead to 4-2. Shana Fallon and Amanda Kruse skated hard, but they could not stop the Flames as they recorded a 5-2 win. ?I saw lots of positives this weekend?, analyzed coach Dan Golob. ?Kara carried the puck, Brittany Leach had a couple of shots on net, and Sharla made a pile of great saves. The team is progressing nicely for their first season?. After a short pause ?You know we have some good skaters out there. What famous #12 was nicknamed ?The Roadrunner?? His name is on the Stanley Cup 10 times?.
