Government of BC names two new members to Northern Health’s Board

The Government of British Columbia has completed a process to appoint two new members to Northern Health’s ten-member Board of Directors.

Directors are appointed as individuals to share equally in the governance of health authorities. Members do not represent individual communities, programs, or health service delivery areas.

Dr. John Gentles has been named to the Board from the Northeast. Dr. Gentles has owned a private optometry practice in Fort St. John since 1984. He also provides Optometry services in Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson. He is a member and Past President of the BC Association of Optometrists and a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists. He is also a member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Fort St. John. Dr. Gentles holds a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo.

Judith Wass is the new appointee from the Northwest. Ms. Wass is currently a Health Consultant for MacDonald Consulting in Hazelton. She has over 35 years experience as a nurse and administrator in the health sector. Ms. Wass served as the Operating Room Head Nurse and an administrator at Wrinch Memorial Hospital for over 25 years.

Ms. Wass holds a Diploma in Nursing from Toronto General Hospital and a Bachelor of Nursing from McGill University. She has also completed the Health Services Management Program from the Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA). For the past 10 years, Ms. Wass has served as Chair of the Roche View Lodge. She is also a Member of the Hazelton Housing Initiative and the Lakes District Kennel Club. Ms. Wass is a non-practicing member of the Registered Nurses Association of BC (RNABC). In 2000, she was awarded the Award of Excellence in Nursing Administration from the RNABC.

Both members have been appointed for a three-year term.
