Rick Scott, one of Canada?s favourite children?s performers, will be appearing at Grizfest July 31 and August 1 of this year.
Rick is an award-winning singer, songwriter and dulcimer player who is known around the world for his lively, original music. Over 30 years he has released 15 albums and performed his music in nine countries. His gift for combining wacky humour and poignant human commentary has earned him a devoted following of all ages.
For the past 25 years Rick Scott has enjoyed a varied and colourful career as a singer, songwriter and actor for stage, radio, film and television.
Scott first rose to notoriety in 1974 as singer and dulcimer player in the legendary folk groups Pied Pumkin String Ensemble and Pied Piper Pear with Joe Mock and Shari Ulrich with whom he has released six albums.
In 1990 Scott turned his attention fulltime to young audiences and has since performed more than a thousand family concerts in school, theatres and festivals across Canada, US, Asia and Australia. He has released three best selling family recordings: The Electric Snowshoe (1989) which went gold in 1998, Rick Around the Clock (1992) (which contains his popular rap introduction to Mozart, the Yo Mo Concerto), and the CD Philharmonic Fool (1996) which was nominated for 1996 Juno Award and 1997 Pacific Music Industry Association Award for Best Children?s album. He has been keynote performer at several international educators conferences including Earcos in Hong Kong, Seattco in Singapore, and Korkos in Seoul, Korea.
Scott is spokesperson for the Down Syndrome Research Foundation. His video of the song Angels Do, celebrating special needs children and starring his granddaughter Mielle is currently being shown on the Knowledge Network, Rogers Cable and the Disney Channel.
In the early ?80s Scott founded the children series Switchback on CBC Television. He has been a regular on the Fred Penner?s Place on CBC TV in Canada and Odyssey TV in the US.
