Growing up green ? a new lifestyle for a young generation

(NC)–The days of wasteful consumerism and using environmentally harmful products are long gone. Canadian adults have had to adjust their thinking significantly with an abundance of new information re-educating them about how to embrace a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Unlike adults, young Canadians today were raised in an atmosphere of ?green living? and don?t think twice about making environmentally friendly choices. Being ?green? is simply an inherent characteristic for most of today?s youth.

Here are a couple of occasions you can use to encourage your children to continue the green lifestyle and keep your family ?eco-friendly.?

? Practice the 3R?s ? reduce, reuse, recycle. Reduce your waste by packing reusable lunch boxes or bags, cloth napkins, reusable utensils and containers.

? Pack fruits and vegetables that are in season, locally produced and organic. ? Make sure you pack a recyclable Tetra Pak juice, water or milk carton. The drinks can also work double duty as a frozen icepack to keep things cold and safe until lunch time. ? Send an e-vite instead of paper invitations. ? Use reusable loot bags and fill them with items that are consumable, reusable or recyclable.

? Use Tetra Pak juice packs which are recyclable and practical (no breaking glass).

? Make sure you use reusable utensils, plates and serving dishes.

? Instead of new gifts, ask parents to consider a donation to a green charity.

? Clean up at the end of the party using environmentally friendly cleaning supplies.
