February 11, 2004 Hey it?s Christine here with the Hello North snow report. Daytime temperatures are warming up and making it easy to get out and enjoy the excellent snow conditions.
Dawson Creek hasn?t received any new snow. There is 47 cm of base on the snowmobile trails, the trails are hard packed and in very good condition. Use caution as there is seismic activity in the area. The cross- country ski trails have 42cm of base, the trails are in very good condition. Bear Mountain ski hill is open conditions are very good, for more info check out: tourismdawsoncreek.com.
Tumbler Ridge has no new snow. Sledding conditions at Backmeadows and Bullmoose are EXCELLENT! Quintette/ Roman Mountain and Mt Speiker are very good. Conditions at Core Lodge and the Dawson Creek Trail are GOOD. Sledding is OKAY at Super Bowl and the Tumbler Ridge Town Site. Cross country skiing conditions at the golf course, creeks and off trail could use a bit more snow but are in good conditions.
Fort St. John hasn?t received new snow. The snowmobile trails are in great condition. Please use caution when traveling on Charlie Lake, as there are skating rinks, ice ridges, and a race track on the lake. Drag Races are Sunday the 15th at the Airport, and Snoworama is coming up on the 28th. The cross-country ski trails at Lone Wolf, Links and Beatton Provincial Park are all in great condition.
Mackenzie has received 5 inches of snow around town, and 2 feet in the mountains. General sledding conditions are great. Trails are groomed from Mackenzie to Morphee Mountain and Powder King to the Bijoux cabin. Avalanche danger considerable to extreme. The Powder King area-is now on the Canadian Avalanche Association website at avalanche.ca. Drag races are scheduled for February 22.
Whispering Pines Ski Area in Worsley, Alberta has 56 cm of settled snow. They have received 10cm of new snow. Conditions are excellent, the hill is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and Monday Feb 16th for Family Day. For more info check out skiworsley.com
