Help the People in War-Torn Places

Do you want to give help that goes directly to the people and to the forces? There is a program that receives items for distribution to the troops who will then supply the citizens of the area with the items. It is a direct exchange with no in-between agencies. However, it is American. Some object to their wars and have preference to send where Canadian forces are. I inquired if there was any Canadian program such as this and the resulting response was ?no try the Red Cross.? The web site for the afghanistan project is: web site for the baghdad project is:

The following is a quote from the web site: ?They need quilts, and blankets all sizes, but double would be great, all sizes of hats, scarves, warm mittens and gloves, socks, booties, and sweaters, for many families. Also needed are gently used or new SHOES (they have a great need for these) or boots, gently used coats, sweat pants, sweat shirts, t-shirts, dresses, etc. all sizes and teddy bears, dolls, or beanie babies for the little ones would be welcome! You could also send soap, hard candies, and gum for our troops to eat or hand out as well as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, clean magazines, crossword puzzles etc.

You will remember that we sent afghans for troops in hospital in Germany. The response for that program was overwhelming and they requested us not to send any more at this time. Therefore, perhaps you could direct your assistance to the troops in the field. I am collecting items and will be mailing them in August so the goodies will be available for the winter season.
