HELPING HANDS: Dawson Creek's Salvation Army Blacklight Performers put their white gloves to work last Thursday evening (March 3) at a fundraising dinner for Jerrilyn Schembri at the community centre. About 30 people turned out for the dinner, raising funds for the remainder of her campaign. Schembri (pictured below) is seeking the Conservative Party nomination for the Prince George – Peace River riding vacated over the summer by now-retired MP Jay Hill. Voting takes place at meetings held around the vast northeastern B.C. riding from March 7 to March 11, with a winner expected to be known by the end of the day Friday. A by-election hasn't been scheduled, but a March 22 federal budget unveiling could trigger the call for an election. It would be the fourth election in Canada over the past seven years.
