Hunter seeks NDP Nomination in Northeastern BC

Believing that it is time to bring positive change to the House of Commons, Tumbler Ridge resident Michael Hunter announced that he is seeking the nomination for the New Democratic Party in the riding of Prince George ? Peace River for the next Federal Election expected this spring.

?Our current Member of Parliament has written that his job as an opposition MP is simply to review and criticize the Government of Canada. He could not be more wrong?, Hunter says. ?Anybody can criticize or tell you who?s to blame. What is more important is to provide meaningful ways to correct a problem. That?s what Michael Hunter is going to do, provide well reasoned workable alternatives. It?s time to stop squabbling and start solving the issues before us.?

After graduating from the University of Alberta, Hunter ran a consulting firm that assisted Canadian businesses involved in the Asia-Pacific marketplace. In 1993 he moved to Tumbler Ridge and worked at the Bullmoose mine for ten years before returning to university last fall.

Hunter was asked to consider the idea of running over the Christmas break. The would be candidate says new federal leader Jack Layton and the NDP history with people issues like healthcare and seniors were key factors in his decision to come on board.
