January Fire Department Report

Fire Chief Matt Treit

On January 15, the Tumbler Ridge Fire Department responded to an accident involving a coal truck on the Murray River Forest Service Road.  Fortunately the lone occupant did not sustain any serious injuries.
The Tumbler Ridge Fire Department started off the year of 2013 with a very busy month. The TRFD responded to twenty-five calls during that month. These included eighteen First Responder (medical) calls, three reports of fire, two reports of ringing fire alarms, one motor vehicle accident, and one request from STARS to establish a landing zone to evacuate a patient.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Probationary Firefighter Brad Elliot to the Tumbler Ridge Fire Department. We look forward to many years of service from him with our organization.
Training in the month of January included the topics of building construction, ventilation, forcible entry, ground ladders, confined space rescue, and radio communication. Congratulations to Deputy Diana Vandale, and Firefighters Scott Beattie, Brandon Braam, Chris Dell, and Probationary Firefighter Brad Elliot who all achieved 100% attendance at training sessions in the month of January.
Congratulations also go out to Firefighters Scott Beattie and Ian Leach who both celebrated their eleventh year with the fire department this past month. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their many years of service to the community of Tumbler Ridge, and hope to see them with the TRFD for many more years to come.
A reminder to everyone to be safe while riding their snowmobiles and ATVs during 2013. Last year was a busy one for ATV incidents and we have already had our first accident of 2013, so please ride safely and wear the appropriate safety equipment.
The Fire Department is continuing to look for new members. If you are interested in serving your community in this way, stop by the fire hall for more information. No previous experience is necessary.
