Keep warm as the temperature drops!

Though going hiking through the fall leaves is a fun activity, the temperature is quickly dropping and sometimes it’s fun to do some activities inside, while the weather does its thing outside.

If you are new to Tumbler, or simply looking for some new hobbies, there are more than a few drop-in sport nights at various locations throughout town. If you schedule it right, there are activities almost every night!

Here is a list of drop-in and sign-up adult groups:

Soccer: Wed. nights starting at 7:30 in the high school gym. Men and women and youth are invited! Participants must be at least 10 years old and it costs two dollars each time. For more information contact Steve: 250-242-7483.

Basketball: Every Tues. at 7:30 in the high school gym. It also costs two dollars for the drop-in. Organizer Robert Duhaime says, “We get about seven to 12 people most Tuesdays from ages 14 and higher.”

Zumba: Like to boogie? Zumba is a fun, easy-to-follow Latin-inspired dance fitness program that has taken the world by storm! It’s all about feeling good, having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle! Come join the party here in Tumbler Ridge: Tues. and Thurs. from 6:30 -7:30 p.m. The new session runs from Oct. 15th – Nov. seventh, $40.00 + GST for eight classes or drop-in for eight dollars.

Yoga: Yoga for all levels is offered by a Yoga Alliance RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) in a dedicated studio Tuesdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. and some Saturdays 9:00-10:15 a.m. Studio is located at 132 Babcock Avenue. Cost is $10 drop in. Sign-up for classes is by text to 250-242-8499 by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday for Tuesday class and 9 p.m. Friday for Saturday class (if it’s running). There is also an AlegRia Yoga Studio Facebook page to announce any changes to the schedule.

Squash: There is one awesome squash court and we have started a squash ladder. It works out to about one match per week. If you are interested in playing squash, even if you don’t have a racquet, call 250-242-8042.

Walk Away the Pounds: This FREE group meets Mon. Wed. and Fri. at one p.m., in rooms four and five of the community centre. It is a video-led class which incorporates walking with arm and leg strengthening activities. There are one, three, and five km lengths to the workout.

Hockey: Lookin’ to strap on the skates and get back on the ice? Well stop by the community centre and have a chat with them about joining one of the leagues in town. There is a recreational league as well as an Old Timers League – don’t let the name fool you, it’s 35 years and up.

Drop-in indoor floor curling: This is a drop-in team game that takes place at the community centre, Tuesday from one to four p.m. It is a toonie for the day.

Line Dancing: Want to learn some moves before heading out to the line dancing club? Well here’s your chance. This class runs Thurs. from 1:30-2:30, and costs two dollars for the drop-in.

Aqua-bootcamp: This is a bootcamp fitness class that takes place in the community pool includes water bike spinning. Classes run 6:15 a.m. or 5:15 p.m. on Tues. and Thurs. Drop-in costs $4.75 or you can pre-register for the next eight-week session beginning Nov. fifth for $38.

Aquafit: Also found in the pool, aquafit takes place Mon. Wed. and Fri. from 10-11 a.m.

Badminton: Last year there wasn’t enough interest to keep it going however Duhaime says if he gets requests, he could start organizing it for Thursday nights.

Though this is a pretty long list, there are even more activities going on around town. Keep your eyes open for posters at the Community Centre and outside of Shop Easy.
