610 people cast their ballets at the Community Center on Saturday. Winning by a comfortable margin was Pernell Kirby, with 288 votes. Kirby will be officially sworn in in mid-March.

The Kirby team held a small party at the Tumbler Ridge Inn lounge on Saturday evening. The Mayor, several Councillors and numerous people from around town stopped in to congratulate Kirby. Kirby?s wife Joanne presented her husband with a new briefcase for his anticipated workload when he takes up his official duties.

The last by-election, held on May 12, 2001 had 294 votes cast for the six candidates running.
