Letters to the Editor

i just want to say congratulations to Ian Leach for being recognized as the Volunteer Firefighter of the year in the February 8 edition of this newspaper. Ian was named Firefighter of the year because of his ?positive, ready-to-go attitude, excellent attendance record, and for being a great example of a volunteer?, according to the Fire Chief. It is individuals like Mr Leach that make where we live a community.

The volunteer firefighters have a practice every Wednesday evening. That is a commitment they make to make our community a better place to live. Their commitment involves carrying a pager and responding to an emergency regardless of what they are doing in their leisure time. If those individuals do nothing else to contribute to any other community organization, then they have done enough to serve their community.

Everyone that belongs to a community should volunteer their time to support at least one community organization.

So congratulations to Mr Leach, and all of the dedicated volunteer Firefighters. Tumbler Ridge is a better place because you are here.
