LOOKING FOR EVERY DAY HEROS

(VANCOUVER – April 24, 2006) Global National, Canada?s leading national newscast, is now accepting nominations for its new series, ?Everyday Hero.? Producers are searching for extraordinary individuals who are accomplishing remarkable feats and making a difference in the world – without asking for recognition.

Originally a 4-part special series led by Global National anchor and executive editor Kevin Newman, ?Everyday Hero? quickly became a huge success, with viewers wanting to see more – and submitting ideas and nominations for who they thought best represented an everyday hero in their community.

?There are many people trying to make a difference who rarely receive the media attention they deserve. Everyday Hero is our way of recognizing these individuals and to share their achievements with the rest of the country,? said Newman. ?We?re looking for Canadians who through their ideas, efforts and dedication are making a difference in the lives of other people, and we are asking everyone to send in their nominations.?

Viewers can visit www.globalnational.com and click on the Everyday Hero icon to nominate an individual they think should be profiled. Submissions should include the names of the nominees, their contact information, city of where the nominee live and work and a description of how the individual is making a difference. Successful nominees will be contacted for the chance to be profiled by Kevin Newman in an upcoming Global National newscast.

Heroes who have been profiled recently include:  a young celebrity photographer who auctioned off photos of famous headliners like Celine Dion and The Barenaked Ladies to help World Vision build homes for children with AIDS in Africa,  a University of Toronto political science student who is lobbying for anti-gun laws in the wake of escalating urban crime and coined the phrase BLING (Bring Love In, Not Guns),  and a female senior infantry soldier who overcame obstacles against all odds to lead our Canadian troops on the front lines in Afghanistan.
