The mobile mammography unit came to Tumbler Ridge Oct 21 & 22nd; this is the third trip to Tumbler Ridge. This is a great service for those who cannot always get out of town, take a day off from work or drive to Dawson Creek for their mammogram. Marg Ash, a resident of Tumbler Ridge was instrumental along with Blair Lekstrom and the B.C. Cancer Society in bringing this mobile unit to our town. This service is mostly used by women between 40 and 79 years of age, referrals under the age of forty are sometimes made by the doctor. In talking with Colleen Blasky, she said this visit is the lowest number that have booked for appointments in Tumbler Ridge, she would like to see this service continue here and encourages people to book future appointments to make sure we do not lose this service. You do not need a doctor?s referral for this mobile service, just call 1-800-663-9203 with you B.C. Medical Card number or you can visit www.smpbc.ca for further information. Remember regular screening mammograms have shown to reduce deaths from breast cancer by 25 percent.
