At the prize giving for the Emperor?s Challenge Mountain Race in the mountains near Tumbler Ridge on 7 August, Duke Energy and Talisman Energy made a surprise announcement that will help shape the community?s future and assist in its economic diversification. In a joint presentation, each donated $5,000 to the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation, specifically for the development of its Peace Region Palaeontology Research Centre.
TRMF Vice President Charles Helm, in accepting the cheques, and thanking Duke and Talisman Energy for their generosity, pointed out that due to matching federal funds through the SICEAI program, and with the help of Western Diversification and Community Futures, this $10,000 donation actually translates into $50,000! This will be used to purchase much-needed equipment to allow the preparation, storage, interpretation and exhibition of the region?s remarkable fossil resources, in particular British Columbia?s first dinosaurs.
Duke and Talisman Energy were also the two platinum sponsors for the Emperor?s Challenge, each donating $750 towards the catering, which contributed significantly to the success of the race.
