If your child(ren) will not be attending Tumbler Ridge Elementary in September, please notify the office as budget and class allocations depend on this information.

If you know of a student who will be starting Kindergarten this upcoming year, please ask their parents to register them at the school as soon as possible.

According to the BC Association of Optometrists, one in five children has a vision disorder. Since many eye conditions have no obvious symptoms, would you be able to tell if your child has one? A thorough eye exam by an optometrist is the only way to know for sure. Early testing can occur as early as three years old.

With the melting of the snow, comes many pairs of wet pants and socks. It would be helpful to send an extra pair of pants and socks in your child?s backpack to avoid them sitting all day in wet clothes, or your having to come to the school to give them dry clothes. Rubber boots would also be appreciated.

Mr. Greengrass will be doing Badminton for the grades 5 and 6 students. This will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting April 16th. Permission slips may be picked up from Mr. Greengrass.

Windrem Elementary School

Let?s go Fly a Kite

We are going to have a kite flying day. Our plan is to celebrate arts and culture by having the whole school flying kites on a windy day. Kids will be able to create their own designs on pre-made sturdy kits. They can then be taken home to provide hours more of outdoor fun. The kites cost $5 each. Teachers will soon start collecting this money, but please let us know if this will cause hardship for you. We haven?t set a date yet for our kite flying, but we?ll be sure to let you know so you can come and watch. We will be inviting the papers too.

If you have a child who is ready to start kindergarten in September, now is a good time to register. Your child has to be five by December 31, 2009. Please bring in the birth certificate so we can keep a copy of it.

Welcome to Kindergarten

On May 8 we will be having an afternoon orientation for our new crew to help them feel comfortable. We will be introducing them to the K teacher and other members of our staff. Kids can come with their parents or care givers and will enjoy stories and crafts. Each child who is registered with us will receive a ?goody bag? with play items and ideas for parents that will help prepare your child for school.

Ready, Set, Learn

Ready, Set, Learn is a program aimed at 3 and 4 year olds to give them a positive school experience. Each child who comes with a parents or care giver will receive a kit that includes a story book for kids and a DVD for parents. This year we are going to combine Ready, Set, Learn with Welcome to Kindergarten. Please call the school to register for either or both events, happening in May 8 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm.
