Northern Lights College Graduation Awards Ceremony

On June 14th, about 40 graduates, instructors, and staff from Northern Lights College (NLC) in Tumbler Ridge gathered at the Coal Bin Pub for the annual awards ceremony for the graduating class. Six awards were presented to students by staff from the college and one local business member. David Szucsko, Adult Basic Education Instructor at the college, said that the ceremony was a great way to honour the recipients of each award for their achievements and progress throughout the school year.

Szucsko said that companies such as Talisman, Pacific Northern Gas, and the Northern Lights College Foundation (to name a few) play a very big role in the ceremony since they help financially contribute to it. He added that the function is always well attended and is followed up with a golf tournament at the Tumbler Ridge Golf and Country Club.

Brenda Holmlund was able to attend as acting Mayor. She congratulated the graduating class and gave an inspirational speech, and wished the best for the graduating students for their future.

Mark Minier, campus administrator from the Chetwynd NLC, thanked everyone for coming and encouraged everyone to attend the golf tournament later that day. The ceremony wrapped up with a few congratulatory hugs, tears of joy, and picture taking. ?Finally!? one student said, ?I did it!?
