Pee Wee Raptors Host Finals

Young hockey player in actionHockey fans were treated to a great weekend of sport on February 27 and 28 when the Tumbler Ridge Minor Hockey Association hosted the North East Recreational Hockey League Championship at the Pee Wee (ages 11–12) level.

Eight teams, representing five different communities participated including Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and the hometown Tumbler Ridge Raptors. Fort. St. John had three teams and Dawson Creek had two teams in the tournament.

Teams were split into two pools according to how they placed in regular season play, with the top four teams playing for the “A” Banner and the bottom four playing for the “B” banner.

A round robin was played with the finals culminating on Sunday afternoon. The Tumbler Ridge Raptors played for the “B” Banner final against the Fort St. John Tom’s Construction Team.

Over 200 fans packed the stands for the exciting game between the two evenly matched teams. The hometown suffered a heart breaking loss in sudden death overtime with a final score of 4–3 for FSJ.

The Dawson Creek  #1 Team and the Fort St. John AAA Safety squared off for the “A” Banner.  Again fans were treated to a nail-biter with the game ending in a shoot-out, with Fort St. John the victors.
