The Alpha Fire and Safety store might sit empty, but owner Glen Barrow says the company is not leaving Tumbler Ridge. “We are still active there, but we won’t be renewing our lease,” he says.
With the company’s major contracts coming from the mine, says Barrow, they are unable to maintain an actual store in the community.
Instead, they’re taking the store on-line, allowing people to order items virtually. “We are going to stay in the community,” says Barrow, “and the manager is still in community.”
Orders placed online or over the phone will be fulfilled locally, as the company is maintaining their storage space here.
And, when the mines pick back up, says Barrow, the plan is to re-open the storefront.
