Tumbler Ridge had been serviced by Joy Propane for some 15 years. The company had two outlets in Dawson Creek and the outlet in the small commercial park in town. Ron Graham, the owner, retired and sold his business. The company, now owned by a much larger petroleum company, has just announced that they will be closing the Tumbler Ridge outlet in two weeks.
That decision will leave those folks who use propane scrambling for services. Our Economic Development Officer, Ray Poulx, has been working with Canwest Propane who has expressed an interest in possibly providing some services to Tumbler Ridge.
What shape those services would take has not been determined. It may not be the same full service station we are accustomed to, but rather an outlet service. Residents may recall palmier days when a propane service was offered at Shell and Tags, as well as Joy Propane in the small commercial park.
In the interim Jordan Matychuk, at Canwest says that although they cannot fill small propane bottles, they can offer some services to consumers in Tumbler Ridge in the short term. Matychuk says that they usually have a truck in this area, and if services are needed please give him a call at 1-800-488-6093.
Thanks to Ray Proulx for taking a proactive step to resolve this loss of service to Tumbler Ridge, and to Canwest for stepping up to the plate.
