RCMP Advisory – Logging Truck Collision

On March 20, 2014, at 11:00 am Chetwynd RCMP responded to a logging truck collision at the Welcome to Chetwynd Sign vehicle pull out on Hwy 97 South. Upon attendance police observed two logging trucks facing north within the vehicle pull out, the trailer of the second logging truck had collided with the trailer of the first logging truck and the second logging truck was partially obstructing the north bound lane. CVSE members were conducting traffic control in order to prevent traffic congestion. Chetwynd RCMP were informed by CVSE members that a multi agency check stop was being conducted by CVSE, Work Safe BC, Forestry and Dawson Creek RCMP Traffic Services and the collision occurred as CVSE members attempted to conduct checks of the two logging trucks. The second logging truck attempted to pull into the vehicle pull off as directed by CVSE members, the truck driver attempted to stop quickly, the highway was icy and the trailer collided with the first logging truck trailer. There were no reported injuries. Machinery was used to remove the logs from the two damaged trailers, the trailers were repaired on scene and later departed. Violation tickets were issue to both logging truck drivers by CVSE members for motor vehicle act offences unrelated to the collision.
