Will be offered at the school on April 24 from 12:30 – 1:30 in the French Room at the Elementary school. Children must be 3 years of age by the end of 2008 in order to enrol. This is a brief introduction to what parents can do with their children to help prepare them for school so parents must accompany their child. To register your child for this event, please call the school at 242-5281 so we can have an idea of the numbers of children who will be coming.
FAMILY DANCE ? The parent group is planning on holding a family dance. This will be held in the school gym on Saturday, May 9th from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. It will cost $10 per family and there will be an option to have a family picture done as well for $10. Refreshments will be provided. This is open to all community members so even if you do not have school aged children, please come and join the fun.
SCHOOL DANCE Our spring dance will be on Friday, May 1, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. This is for students in grade 4-7. The theme this spring is ?black & white t-shirts?. If your child has a friend that is visiting that weekend or who is home schooled but would like to attend, a permission form needs to be signed by the parent and the principal. The cost is $5.00.
EDUCATIONAL WEB SITES
? Some parents have been looking for web sites to help their students sharpen their reading and math skills. Below is a list of ones that might be helpful:
LEAVING TUMBLER RIDGE?
If your child(ren) will not be attending Tumbler Ridge Elementary in September, please notify the office (242-5281) as budget and class allocations depend on this information.
If you know of a student who will be starting Kindergarten this upcoming year, please ask their parents to register them at the school as soon as possible. The school will also be hosting a ?Welcome to Kindergarten? day sometime in late May or June. The Lions Club has supported this program already by donating money for the welcome bags that each student will get.
YOUR CHILDS VISION
According to the BC Association of Optometrists, one in five children has a vision disorder. Since many eye conditions have no obvious symptoms, would you be able to tell if your child has one? A thorough eye exam by an optometrist is the only way to know for sure. Early testing can occur as early as three years old.
BASKETS FOR THE PLAYGROUND
Thank you to those who donated items for the baskets for the raffle. You helped the parent group raise $357. A special thank you to Jocelyn Logtenberg for her efforts with this fund raiser.
COMMUNITY FIELD TRIPS PLANNED
Ms. Mann?s and Ms. Leuze?s classes are launching into a Community Helpers unit and will be out and about in our community over the next few months. Watch for us visiting various locations in town and learning to appreciate all the services provided by the wonderful citizens of Tumbler Ridge. Thanks ahead of time to all the parents who will help out and to the community for sharing their expertise with curious students.
Each year the Community Centre puts on a contest for the ?best dressed? sneaker. Your child can participate by simply decorating their shoes on May 8th. Someone from the Community Centre will come and award prizes to the participants.
