The 9th annual Ridge Ramble Cross Country Ski Race will be on Saturday, January 29th, starting at 11AM, with the emphasis on having a fun time. The adult course takes skiers on a loop from the golf course to the Lost Haven cabin and back. Recreational skiers will do this loop once for a distance of 7km, and those interested in the Racing category can ski this loop three times for a total distance of 20km. The course is beautiful, featuring open fields and rolling terrain in the forest. There have been as many as 50 people entered in this fun event. If you are interested in checking the course out, just head to the golf course parking lot, walk down the hill to the tee boxes on the number one fairway, and follow the ski trails. There are many different loops you can ski, ranging in distance from 1km to 7km, so follow the signs for the one that best suits you.
There is also a kids? event in the Ridge Ramble Cross Country Ski Race. Those aged 7 and under are in the Bunny category, and ski a 1.3km loop. Children aged 8 to 14 will ski the fairway loop, which is 2.5km. There are usually as many kids out skiing as adults in this event, which is great to see. The entry fee, which includes lunch, is $13 for adults and $8 for children. The ski race is being held one week earlier than usual to accommodate the Northern B.C. Winter Games, which are being held in Dawson Creek on February 4th ? 6th, and will feature some of Tumbler Ridge?s own cross country skiers.
The start and finish of the race can be seen from the golf course Club House, and this is where the registration, refreshments and awards are held. Hot and cold food, as well as drinks are available here for both racers and spectators. Please arrive before 10:30 to register. If you are not interested in participating in the ski race, feel free to come on down and have a snack while you cheer on your friends and neighbours.
