On Tuesday 12 June a delegation from the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society (WNMS) attended the Mayor and Council?s Planning Session to discuss implementation of the promised athletics track, using the $10000 donation from True Sport that WNMS had secured for Tumbler Ridge. The result was that on the very next evening Public Works Superintendent Clark Hazlehurst, assisted by three WNMS volunteers, painted five lanes of athletics track on the field below TRSS.
For the first time in its history Tumbler Ridge now has the beginnings of an athletics track, to which improvements can be made over the years. The District also plans to use the funds to construct concrete shot put and discus circles, acquire a discus cage, enlarge and improve the long jump pit, etc. Further donations will be sought by WNMS to improve the facilities and purchase or build equipment for field events such as steeplechase.
