Is it my imagination or is Winter lasting longer and Fall starting sooner? It doesn?t take much to confuse this old lady these days so perhaps I?ve had a Senior?s Moment but where did Spring and Summer go?
In an earlier article I mentioned that we had a Funspiel in May bringing in people from all over the Zone.
In early June the Cribbage Play Downs were held in Hudson Hope. Nine people from Tumbler Ridge attended but only one qualified. Lucie Mantla, in partnership with a lady from Hudson Hope, made up 1 of the 6 qualifying teams for the Seniors Games to be held in Richmond in September.
Then, on June 10, B.C. Seniors Games Zone 12 committee met at the Golf Course Restaurant. There were about 35 of us in attendance for the meeting followed by a nice luncheon of soup and sandwiches. From there we went to the Community Centre where, for the second year in a row, the draws were made from all the raffle tickets sold in the Zone. You folks who supported our sales at Shop Easy and One Stop Video didn?t win. I believe the winners came from Dawson Creek, Taylor and Hudson Hope.
On June 17, the Zone 12 Golf Play Downs were held here as well. 30 eager Seniors gathered at the Course for 18 holes of golf and all were successful in qualifying for the Games. From Tumbler Ridge those qualifying were: Colleen Gies, Joan & Mike Sidwell, Lloyd Hanberg, Shirley Fry, Bob Dunn, Pat & Gerry Fraser, Martha & Ed Kennedy, Jack Wheeler and Glenn Miller. Some have opted not to attend but I believe there will be a good representation from here when the Games begin on September 16. While there, the venue for several of the activities will be the new Speed Skating oval which was completed recently for the 2010 Olympics.
A floor curling team from here will be in attendance at Richmond as well. Joan Sidwell, Moire Jones and Vera Phillips will be joined by Edie Miller from Dawson Creek.
Last, but definitely not least, (be still my heart), HIZONNER Mayor Larry White and Jean Pawlucki will be attending with their One Act Play Directed by Erin Hanna.
We wish all the attendees to the Games the very best of luck and, more importantly, a memorable fun time. Floor curling and drop-in are held every Tuesday afternoon at 1:00PM at the Recreation Centre. Please join us.
