The Games are over for another year and again, Tumbler Ridge Seniors did themselves proud. As yet I have not seen Lloyd Hanberg back in town but it is my understanding that he finished with yet another gold medal in golf. Lucie Mantla is proudly sporting her silver medal won in cribbage. I?ll tell you now, we really had to prod Lucie to get her to go to the Games. She wasn?t all that sure she should go. From what I hear she was the life of the party and can hardly wait until next year for her chance to qualify again.
Then, of course, there was our very own Mayor, Larry White, who took a silver for his acting abilities and last but definitely not least Jean Pawlucki with the bronze in acting as well.
The floor curlers, Vera Phillips, Joan Sidwell and Moire Jones came ever so close to a bronze but didn?t quite make it. They did, however, have the opportunity to play in the new speed skating oval which was completed for the 2010 Olympics.
Now we are back to the normal Ho Hum of Senior life. The Tuesday after noon floor curling/card drop-in takes place each week from 1-3:30 PM
On top of that we are holding a Floor Curling Funspiel on Saturday, October 3 with teams coming from Dawson Creek, Toms Lake, Hudson Hope, Chetwynd and Ft. St. John, we hope. These days usually include close to 70 people and are fun from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM so if you have the chance please drop in and watch.
Along with that the Senior Corner in the lower level of the recreation centre is open five days a week now.
Monday and Wednesday thru Friday are open 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM while Tuesday is 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
A cribbage tournament is planned for Friday Oct. 2 from 11AM- 2:30 PM. Anyone wishing to attend please call Pat Fraser at 250-242-5808 or show up with your lunch in hand and we?ll try to make sure you get to play. We?ll play about four games, stop for lunch, then play another four games. You keep your same partner all day.
This Senior Corner would also like to start a Euchre League Wednesday?s from 1:00PM to 4:00 PM. Drop in and give it a try.
