The Spirit of 2010 hockey tournament was held this past weekend, at The Community Centre. Over 100 hockey players took to the ice, in the spirit of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Spirit of 2010 Hockey is the largest of its kind in Canada with more then 43,000 young athletes taking part in 225 Tournaments around B.C. The Spirit of 2010 is hosted by the Province of British Columbia, the Vancouver Canuks, B.C Hockey and 2010 Legacies Now.
The Official puck drop was Saturday Morning at 10:00am. Ray Proulx (Spirit of BC Community Chair) and Mayor Mike Caisley (District of Tumbler Ridge) were at centre ice for the ceremony. This kicked off two days of games. First to play was Tumbler Ridge vs Horse Lake, Tumbler Ridge took the victory with a six to five final score. Chetwynd and Prince George played next, the game ended in a three to three tie. Horse Lake vs Prince George, Horse Lake took it with a victory of ten to four. Tumbler Ridge vs Prince George started off the Sunday Games, Prince George took it with a five to four final score. Chetwynd and Horse Lake finished off the semi finals with a five to one win for Horse Lake. Finals were played Sunday at 1:00pm. Horse Lake vs Chetwynd, Horse Lake defeated Chetwynd with a final score of five to four. A shoot out held between 2:00pm -3:00pm on Saturday, #31 Tyler Pfanner (Goalie) and #15 Jesse Newton (Both from Chetwynd team) won this event.
The Tumbler Ridge team won, ?Most sportsman like team with least amount of penalty minutes?. Way to go guys!! The boys are headed to Beaver Valley March 15 to 20th to represent the Community and Region at the Provincial Midget A Hockey Game.
