The United Steelworkers Local 1-424 have signed a collective agreement with Teck for the proposed restart of Quintette.

The announcement was made late last week, and goes into effect on May 1. It will remain in effect until April 30, 2018.

Glen Duthie, Quintette’s General Manager says, “we are very pleased to have reached a five-year labour agreement following collaborative discussions with Local 1-424. This agreement marks another important milestone as we move towards the development and proposed restart of the Quintette mine.”

A Mines Act Permit Amendment application for the Quintette project was submitted by Teck in 2012. Permit approval is expected in the first half of 2013 with first coal production expected in the first half of 2014.
