A long-standing Tumbler Ridge tradition will continue this year when the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, a program of the Banff Centre, comes to Tumbler Ridge on October 12th. Presented by National Geographic and The North Face, the Tour has been entrancing audiences in Tumbler Ridge since 1994, with its exciting mix of eclectic and spell-binding films of various lengths.

For many years the Northern Lights College co-hosted the evening with the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society (WNMS). In recent years the Tumbler Ridge Community Arts Council and WNMS were co-hosts. In 2010, for the first time, WNMS will host the evening on its own, and is enjoying working with the staff in The Banff Centre to make this a reality.

Tumbler Ridge has the distinction of being probably the smallest community in the world, and the only place in the BC Peace Region, to host this event. WNMS has long believed that the magnificent Tumbler Ridge mountains and wilderness, combined with the local hiking trail system and other outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism, make Tumbler Ridge a natural venue for a stop on this world tour.

Local sponsorship support has always been necessary for the evening to succeed. This year Finavera Renewables has made a generous donation of $2000 to become the local sponsor of this prestigious event.

”Finavera Renewables is proud to support the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society in its effort to host the Banff Mountain Film Festival,” said Finavera Renewables CEO Jason Bak. “Our company is committed to the ideals of sustainable development and community engagement and this film festival represents many of the ideals that are important to our company. Our wind projects near Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge will provide clean, renewable energy to thousands of homes and we are committed to developing them in an inclusive, sustainable manner. Sponsoring the local stop on the Banff Mountain Film Festival is a good fit for us and we look forward to the exciting and thought provoking films that will be screened.”

Linda Helm, WNMS President, commented: “We are delighted with this wonderful donation, which we really appreciate. It is a tremendous help to us as a non-profit organization, and we look forward to the presence of Finavera Renewables with us as we host these great films.”

In the near future WNMS members will have the opportunity of seeing short clips of the available films, and will help to decide in conjunction with The Banff Centre what the most exciting and suitable films will be for screening in Tumbler Ridge. The event will take place October 12th.
